2006 Inductee - Judy Auwinger

Community Service

Judi was born on December 21, 1949 in Stockton, California. Her biological parents were Janet and Ernie Ojeda. Her mother died of cancer when she was in high school and her father died when she was 24. She was raised by Leora and Maurice Stanfield, friends of her parents.

She attended El Dorado Elementary School, Stockton Junior High School, and St. Mary’s High School, and graduated from Dominican College in San Rafael. She returned home to obtain her first job as a secretary for the Stockton Teacher’s Association and worked with the Association of Mexican-American Educators, as secretary. From 1972-1974 she worked in the Stockton Unified School District’s Teacher Corp Program at Washington Elementary School. Judi served on the Boggs Tract Community Board and later interned at Taylor and Garfield Elementary School. She completed her credential and Master’s Degree at the University of the Pacific.

From 1974-1976, she was a resource teacher at Grant and Hoover Elementary Schools. From 1976-1979 she taught 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades at Monroe Elementary School. Soon after, she enrolled in the Bilingual High Intense Training Program at the University of the Pacific. In 1979, she worked at Kennedy Elementary School as a 5th and 6th grade Bilingual Education teacher until 1981. At the same time, she received her Language Development Specialist Credential and from 1981-1999, worked as a bilingual 2nd grade teacher at Grunsky Elementary School until she accepted the position of Program Specialist, where she works today. She has taught bilingual and remedial reading and writing classes for Delta College since 1986, served as a Master Trainer of Teacher, mentor teacher, and as a BTSA provider for the University of the Pacific and Stockton Unified School District.

Moreover, Judi worked on the committee to elect Fred Godinez, Clark Sueyres and Duane Isetti. She has been a board member of Boggs Tract Community Center, board member and secretary for Pacific Little League and has volunteered for numerous community organizations. Among other, she has been a member of Stockton Athletic Hall of Fame, Stockton Youth Sports Foundation, National Association of Year Round Teacher, Association of Bilingual Teachers and National Council of Teachers of English.
